What is the idea?
The Idea
Try and make $1 million US dollars by selling 1,000,000 pixels for $1 each. The pixels you buy will remain on the homepage permanently. The homepage will not change. Using some of the money I make from the site, I guarantee to keep it online for at least 1 year, but hopefully much longer. I want it to become a kind of internet time capsule. So, in the long run, I believe the pixels will offer good value. You will have a piece of internet history!
The Motivation
To ensure my future baby’s life is what he deserves by buying a better home and a nicer car than I currently own. I want my new born baby to grow up in a better environment than I did with a secured life.
The Means
I am in the process of establishing my own business. Through my hosting company, each 100 pixels purchased, you will receive a free hosting account for 1 year plus free domain name. In doing this, my hope is that at the end of that one year, people will renew their account on their own thus furthering my hosting company.
Everyone is welcome to buy a pixels package. The packages consist of 100-pixel blocks (measuring 10x10 pixels) as you can see the home page is divided into 10,000 packages of 100 pixels(hence there are 1,000,000 totally). The reason that the package is 100 pixels is very simple. Viewing and or clicking on one single pixel is very difficult. 100 pixels give you an area you can see and click. Displaying an area of less than 100 pixels is very small. After all, if you are going to purchase a pixel package, you want someone to be able to see what you are paying for don’t you?
Purchasing Packages
Purchasing a 100-pixel package is easy to do. When it comes to the number of packages, there is no minimum to the number of packages you may buy. You can buy as many pixels as you like, as long as there are some available (see the live stats in the top right corner of the page). When you buy pixel packages, you can then display an image, ad, or logo of your choice in the space you have purchased. You can also have the image click through to your own web site. However, no obscene or offensive images are allowed.
Who are you?
My name is Mohamed Hassan. I am a 24 years old and have a Bachelor Degree in accounting. I married my wonderful wife in October 2008 and we live in Alexandria, Egypt. Our first child is due in November of this year (2009). I will have a baby after 4 months from now estimated in November 2009. I am currently employed as an outsourcing web developer for North America's web development companies. I believe that $1 million US dollars is enough to secure my families security as I establish my own business that hopefully will continue to grow for life.

I do not beg people for $1 million dollars but rather I am selling people a full featured web hosting account that is worth the $100 US dollars. This is a new idea that will prove in time to be very valuable. As history learns the effectiveness of this sort of exposure, more will want the pixels. I am not begging for $1 Million dollars but, instead, I am offering my services to people.
Are you genuine/is this a joke?
I am completely genuine and although this site might be funny in various ways, it is not a joke! I really am selling pixels for $1 each, because i want to secure my new born baby life and establish a business.
Some people have even asked if I am actually 24 years old and going to have a new baby in November 2009. Fair questions, I guess. The answer is of course yes, as you can see some photos and videos for me and for my new baby, also a short video for my marriage party, as long as each time we visit the doctor I have spent my time capturing videos for the baby from sonar. How did you come up with the idea?
The Web site idea is not unique as I inspired this idea from Alex Tew the famous million dollar home page owner. But I worked out on how to develop this idea and add some more ideas to it like offering hosting accounts with each 100-block pixels. The thing is that I may have the same motivation as Alex Tew but for me my motivation is to secure a family life not just personal life.
One of those days while I was thinking about the future and how I can secure my family life, (just like millions of men always caring about future life for their families instead of the current life), I found that I have to come up with an idea that can bring me money for now and help to establish a long term business.
I found that the best business can be one of those recurring business like web hosting so if I have a good number of clients they can keep billing for each year they use the service and that would be great.
Finally, the idea just came out, I decided to find a reason for people to buy my hosting service and they get more traffic and hopefully more sales by selling them the pixels. And the Million Dollar New Born just came out.
Why do you need $1m for your new born baby?
There is no set amount to have in order to securely bring a baby into this world. However, in my opinion, $1 million is an amount that will ensure my child will not need anything. I will be able to support my child and give him the things he needs and wants (within reason) without the financial worries that face many families. On the other hand this number is good enough to establish a big business for life.
What will you do with the money?
Of course there are a million things that I could do with the $1m USD. For me I find that this is what I plan to do with the money.
- 10% of the pixels site net profit will be given to orphans and their charities.
- I will have to buy a new house in a good area instead of the current one so the baby can grow up in a good environment.
- Buying a car (NOT BMW :) but may be a Daewoo car will be better than my current fiat 128 :)
- I will invest some money in the hosting company to improve it and make it bigger
- The rest will be saved in a bank account where it can earn monthly interest. I know in the future I will need finances to give my child the things he wants and needs. placing this money in the bank will assure that I am able to have the finances that I need to cover lifes financial surprises and needs.
Why should i buy your pixels?
You will have an image and a link to your site on the homepage of a site that could potentially be seen by millions of people over the coming years. The site will be online for at least 1 year, that's guaranteed, but the idea is to keep it online forever. So you really could own a piece of 'internet history'!
Through purchasing a pixel package you will have a 1 year free hosting account and domain name worth $100 that you can use for your own or give it to anyone else you choose.
Why can't i buy a single pixel?
I decided that although it would probably be cool if individuals could buy a single pixel each, in practice, it wouldn't so effective. The reason I believe this is because you can't display anything meaningful in one pixel - nor click it easily - so visually, it would be pointless. With thousands of random tiny colored dots all over the place, the homepage would look ghastly.
I also thought that the site would appeal more to people with businesses/web sites to advertise than it would to individuals, or to put it more accurately, businesses would pay more to have a meaningful graphic on the homepage. Hence the minimum purchase is $100 - a 10x10 block.
However! If you really want to own a single pixel, there is always the option of clubbing together with your friends/family/colleagues and buying a 10x10 block. And for the hosting account is supporting multiple domains hosting so all of you can use the same hosting account but I offer only 1 free domain, so if you want to buy more domains you have to buy them on your cost.
How long will the site be online?
The site will be online for 1 year guaranteed (at least until 1st August 2010), however the aim is to keep the site online forever (or as long as humanly possible).
The idea is to create something of an internet time capsule: a homepage that is unique and permanent. Everything on the internet keeps changing so fast, it will be nice to have something that stays solid and permanent for many years. You can be a part of that!
If you're from Egypt, why are you selling the pixels in dollars??
I think US dollars are the closest thing we have to a universal currency on the internet, so it made more sense to do it in dollars.
Also, given that the US has the largest online population in the world; more people will be able to relate to the concept than had I done it in Egyptian pounds. Plus, 1 EGP per pixel would probably be too cheap (would equate to around $0.20 per pixel).
If you want money for your new born, why don't you get a job?
Who said that I don't have a job? ....
I am already working as an outsourcing web developer for North America’s leading web development companies. But of course my income is not $1 million per year. With this site I am also establishing a new hosting company business to be my job too, and finally when I have gained the $1 million dollars I am after, I will have so much business and work to do that in itself will be yet another job. I am not begging, I am trying to offer a valuable service at a reasonable price.
How can i help to spread the word?
There are a few things you can do to help spread the word about the million dollar new born. Anything you do to help gain my site traffic, I am truly grateful.
Even if you don't have enough money to buy pixels you can still help in various ways like spreading the word within your family and friends, in your facebook group, or by putting a banner for the site in your blog or on your web site.
